- The company announced its adherence to the Alliance for Climate Action (ACA Chile), with a focus on energy and water efficiency, waste management and promoting the end of single-use plastics.
Santiago, 15 November 2021. – Mallplaza’s operations will be carbon neutral by 2030. This is the commitment made by the company that operates shopping centers in Chile, Peru and Colombia when it signed its adherence to Alliance for Climate Action (ACA Chile), thus joining the global movement that seeks to address the challenges of the climate emergency and making the company a mobilizing agent of changes with positive impacts on the environment, together with communities.
Through this alliance, Mallplaza will continue to focus on energy and water efficiency and waste management, in addition to promoting the end of single-use plastics. These sustainable work areas are already part of the company’s operation, with initiatives aimed at consolidating this in the coming years. Thus, Mallplaza commits to operate with 100% Nonconventional Renewable Energies (NCREs) by 2022 in Chile and Peru, to cut water consumption by 30% by 2025 and to increase the valuation of its waste to 60%, promoting circularity.
On this announcement, Mallplaza Corporate Affairs Manager María Irene Soto commented that “as a company we are deeply committed to climate action. For this reason, considering the situation that the planet is in today, we decided to move ahead our carbon neutrality target and have set ourselves the goal of achieving it by 2030 through three specific commitments in terms of energy, waste management and water consumption. We believe that this decision is in line with the actions that are being taken globally and also with the concerns of our visitors, tenants and the communities we belong to in Chile, Peru and Colombia. We must act collaboratively in this type of actions; they are a way of making progress on this front.”
