Mallplaza begins delivery of food hampers to the most vulnerable families

  • Mallplaza launched its campaign “Moving forward together, We will get through this,” where together with Movidos Por Chile and SIEmpre (CPC) it will contribute food hampers that will benefit over 9,700 families in 11 municipalities in Santiago, Antofagasta, Copiapó and Concepción.
  • The first delivery was made in the municipality of Huechuraba and consisted in the first 500 hampers, which the municipality and the Movidos x Chile team will distribute every month for a period of 3 months.

Santiago, 15 May 2020 – Over 9,700 families from the territories where Mallplaza has a presence will receive a box of staple foods as part of the shopping center company’s social actions to accompany neighbors who have been hit the hardest by the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first delivery was made in the Municipality of Huechuraba this morning, where Mallplaza Norte assistant manager Roberto Iriarte delivered 500 food hampers to Mayor Carlos Cuadrado and the Executive Director of Movidos x Chile, Pablo Flores, who will be responsible for their distribution in the municipality.

“At Mallplaza we know our neighbors and communities and are aware that the health crisis is also impacting them economically, especially our most vulnerable neighbors. This is why we are promoting the campaign “Moving forward together, We will get through this,” which will allow us to deliver over 9,780 food hampers over the next three months,” Mallplaza Norte assistant manager Roberto Iriarte said.

For Huechuraba Mayor Carlos Cuadrado Prats, “Huechuraba once again sets an example for Chile, where in times of normalcy there is joint and cooperative work and even more so in times of emergency, these companies go to the municipality to offer their help for the benefit of our neighbors. In this case the effort that Mallplaza is making by contributing 500 boxes of merchandise to vulnerable neighbors of our municipality  for 3 months is something we highlight and applaud. We have been achieving the unity we wanted between the private sector, the public sector and  citizens, and when that joint work exists, the only beneficiaries are the neighbors, especially the most vulnerable.”

The donation of over 9,780 food hampers is part of the SiEmpre initiative, Business Solidarity and Innovation, led by the CPC and its branches, which invited companies of all sizes and sectors to commit to the most vulnerable families in the country.

“This is a great opportunity to highlight intersectoral commitment and work in emergency situations. We believe that this articulation between Mallplaza, the CPC and Movidos x Chile is an example of a Chile in transformation, beginning with the willingness, support and commitment to generate a chain of solidarity and go in support of families that are currently in economic difficulties because of the pandemic,” said Pablo Flores of Movidos x Chile.

Starting today, the initiative will be replicated in different cities around the country, renewing the commitment Mallplaza has had to its neighboring communities in its 29 years of history.
