Mallplaza is included on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the third year running

  • In a challenging year for shopping centers, Mallplaza once again managed to be included in the DJSI in the MILA and Chile indexes.

Santiago, 19 November 2021. Mallplaza received a show of support for its sustainability management from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, considered the global sustainability index that recognizes leading companies for their economic, social and environmental performance.

In the recently released performance report, for the third consecutive year Mallplaza managed significant scores in the MILA and Chile indexes, ranking in the top 8% of the industry.

“The results obtained confirm Mallplaza’s firm conviction to make progress with a robust ESG management strategy. We are committed to implementing various initiatives that create sustainable value over time for our visitors, tenants, associates and investors,” Mallplaza CEO Fernando de Peña said.

In this regard, some of the ESG initiatives that underpin Mallplaza’s sustainable development model include the progress made on risk management, cybersecurity and human rights, among others, the value added to territories through the promotion of entrepreneurship; the implementation of vaccination centers in shopping centers and ongoing dialogue with neighbors; and a robust climate strategy involving energy, water and waste management, in addition to the promotion of electromobility.

In addition, Mallplaza recently joined the Alliance for Climate Action, committing to a carbon neutral operation by 2030. “We believe that this decision is in line with what leading companies are doing around the world, with the interests of our tenants, and that it is also in tune with the concerns of current and future generations in Chile, Peru and Colombia, countries where we have operations,” De Peña added.
