Reaffirming its commitment to the region and potential growth, Mallplaza has announced, during its shareholders’ meeting, the resumption of construction of Mallplaza Cali in Colombia after having been paused in an initial construction phase in 2020 to the restrictions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Growing is part of Mallplaza’s DNA, and that is why today, given the business conditions and projections, we believe it is time to resume our project in Cali. Colombia is a market with high potential, where we are consolidating our proposal. We believe that Mallplaza Cali will be a winning proposal in its market with attractive commercial partners and multiple options for people. We expect it to become a unique destination in the city and the Valle del Cauca”, explained Fernando de Peña, general manager of Plaza S.A.

Mallplaza Cali will have a central location in the city, with important north and south connectivity, which will attract Cali residents. It considers a great fashion proposal with national and international brands, such as Inditex (Zara Berskha, Pull&Bear, Stradivarius), Decathlon, Homecenter, and Cinemark. In line with the proposal for multiple uses and visiting purposes, the new urban centre will also have an Urban Rooftop that will incorporate a complete gastronomic offer. This new project will add 67,000 m2 to the company’s leasable area and is scheduled to open in the first half of 2024.

Co-work as a new category

Along with the above, Mallplaza announced the addition of a new category of use to its value proposition, which is added to its residential rental projects in the districts of Huechuraba and La Florida. It is about incorporating co-work services or flexible work areas in its urban centres, occupying spaces adapted according to the new needs of visitors, and allowing to drive flows and generate new alliances.

Mallplaza’s network of coworking spaces includes 6,126 m2 of areas available during 2022 in Mallplaza Tobalaba, Mallplaza Oeste, Mallplaza Egaña, Mallplaza Vespucio, Mallplaza Los Dominicos, as well as in its urban centres located in the regions of Chile. Meanwhile, contracts for another 6,000 m2 are expected to close soon in the different urban centres of Peru and Colombia.

“Our shopping centres are, today, true poles in the middle of the city, consolidating themselves as urban centres that not only allow solving needs, but where people can live, study, work and have fun. This is how new mixed-use categories have been -and will be incorporated- into the value proposition, always seeking to connect with the new and diverse demands of people”, said Fernando de Peña.

Considering the new characteristics of the labour market and taking advantage of the centre’s strategic location, Mallplaza is innovating in the industry by incorporating a co-work network as a new business category. Bringing these shared workspaces to high-density areas such as the districts of La Reina, Puente Alto and Cerrillos.

In addition to the coworking and residential rental projects, the company incorporates other purposes for visitors. For instance, an innovative area dedicated to gamers, a 1,000 m2 space at Mallplaza Vespucio, will receive a varied and attractive proposal from commercial partners for an audience ranging from 13 to 45 years of age. Besides other initiatives such as Pet Plaza, a space dedicated to entertainment, games, service, and pet care.

Omnichannel strategy

The company is also making accelerated progress in generating new infrastructure and capabilities that are giving good results to the company and its business partners, consolidating the position of logistics hubs in its urban centres.

For instance, Click & Collect services operate in the three countries with 19 collection points, reaching over 60 thousand digital orders with logistics services for marketplaces, business partners, and entrepreneurs.

Directory Renewal

On the other hand, within the framework of the renewal of its directors, the Shareholders’ meeting resolved to incorporate Dafne González Lizama, lawyer and Corporate Manager of Operational Legal Affairs at Falabella S.A. She is the second woman to join Mallplaza’s Board of Directors and Claudia Manuela Sánchez, who was elected for a new term as an independent director.
